I heard about this book from my friend Danielle Killick Yacoub years ago. Several times I made it a point to go on ‘artist date’, be it in a museum, gallery or a cafe. I would take my visual dairy and simply write and occasionally draw.
I had never read the book only heard about it from Dani. Last year I finally got this book. Now I am reading it through with a few friends. My main objective is to get out of the COVID rut and start creating with consistency. After several conversations with creative friends I have come to realise that after COVID the chaos in the world has lead to fear and anxiety. Now there is fear of ‘what might happen next’. With so much happening and circulating on our social media, there is never an end to the bad/worse news every single moment of the day.
For me personally its the mobile phone that is the biggest block in the creative process. Since the introduction of 'Reels’ on Facebook (2021), Instagram (2020), life has never been the same. Mind is constantly over stimulated with news, stories, information and entertainment. Although I work long hours but my average time on my phone is at the moment is about 51hours. On average my work requires me to be available on phone (for work) for about 8hours a day. The rest of the are the mostly distraction from life/goals/dreams and most importantly ART.
So getting back to the book? Well I am hoping that this book will guide me back to my life’s passion and provide a breakthrough for my art practice. The extra hours spent on the phone every morning and every night will hopefully turn into time spent on art and creative journey.
This blog space is private thought process laid out on paper. I might use this space to write about my learnings from ‘The Artist’s Way’.
